Welcome to our website. Our meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month at 7:30 pm., at the top floor of the American Legion Hall at 400 Cameron Street in Old Town Alexandria, VA. The building is at the south-west corner of North Royal and Cameron Streets, and the entrance to the American Legion hall is just down Cameron St. a bit from the corner. There's lots of free street parking after 7pm and there's an underground city parking lot a block away below the Alexandria Town Square.
Meeting Schedule:
Wednesday, June 11th 7:30pm ...Rescheduled from February, it's Beaver Creek Night. We'll hear about and see recent photos of this very successful stream reclaimation project in Washington County, MD, just a bit west of Fredrick. Beaver Creek is just about an hour's drive from Alexandria.
Many of us place Beaver Creek at the very top of our list of local places to fish, but surprisingly, it receives little fishing pressure, much unlike favorite parts of the Gunpowder where the fish and fishermen know each other by name.
We'll have some other stream updates as well.
.....AND, let's talk about where and when to go fishing next.
.....AND, the GWTU brain trust would very much appreciate any suggestions for future speakers or program ideas. Come to tonight's meeting to share your thoughts.
.....AND, member Josh Delmonico has set up a Yahoo group for us to use to share fishing reports, tips, etc. There'll be sign-up info at the meeting.
Fly tying:
Fly tying is taking a break this month. The meeting will begin at 7:30pm.
Other bits:
Urban Angler has opened for business at the former site site of Angler's Lie in Arlington.
Here's a really good URL for local stream updates: http://www.mikescatchreport.com/
We've also heard good fishing reports from Holmes Run.
